UX for predictive anlytical platform
2017 | #UX Design #Process Facilitation
In a world where complexity is increasing and standardized interfaces are norm we wanted to create an engaging and personal dashboard experience to empower analysts to make better and faster decisions.
My role:
UX Designer, in a development team of 3 other people.
The Client:
Prime provides an intuitive data and analytics platform that empowers their clients to work smarter. They help them gain relevant insights from data and uncover hidden value potential.
Methods and approaches:
Methods and approaches: Strategy workshops, UX Design, Sketch. Invision.
Flowchart to understand and agree on the flow a user should take.
Exploring different levels of granularity for the depth of data - from insights to data source.
Early explortion of hover states.
How might we
How might we make a complex analytics platform more engaging, intuitive and personal?
The Process
I started of synthesising the user research that was conducted by Prime. We worked closely together over several workshops to co-create a better understanding of the platform as well as the business users needs.
A personal connection and engagement was a key focus for the platform so we emphasised the homescreen in the dashboard. We explored dynamic structures of the elements so it could tailor to a range of different personal needs. We defined how the user could and should move with flowcharts wireframes.
For design we were inspired by the design system Fluent, newly released from Microsoft.
Exploring hover states of the personalised homescreen.
Navigation through the interface with different visual elements and complex data.
Process Challenges
One challenge was to not do a full user research myself but trusting the expertise of the customer focused employees to contribute with user value.
Another challenge was to design processes to understand the complext technical analysts and simplify it to “normal language” for the entire team to work with.
Adding UI design to create another level of engagement.
The outcome
We delivered UX and design guidelines for the entire platform. Ranging from atom and components to flow charts and page structures. As well as documentation for the developers.
